  • 20th December 2021 at 5.00pm one Leopard at the Galwanguwa pond. N 08.36497, E 080.08414
    It was a young male leopard and was lying down at the edge of the forest. After a few minutes with the arrival of a few safari jeeps the leopard moved back into the forest. Upon examination of the spot pattern, I was pleased to note that this is the Galwanguwa Male 1 (GWMC 1). This male is around 3 years and 10 months now.

    The animal was partly covered by the bushes but much to our relief moved out after a few minutes. It was a young male cub of about 7 months. With the arrival of a few more vehicles the leopard moved back in to the forest. Later the examination of its spot pattern revealed that this is the Galwanguwa Leopard 1 that I had listed under “Leopards of Wilpattu Guest” section on my site. He is the first litter cub of Maradanmaduwa Female 2. This is my first sighting of this young Leopard and I named it Galwanguwa Male 1 (GWMC 1). With guide Tissa Ratnayake
