This is a species, which is endemic to the country. There are five species of this genus found in the country. The plants in this genus are found in tropical and sub tropical areas throughout the world and are commonly referred to as Ixora.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (National Red List 2012).

This species is generally found in the evergreen forests of the wet lowlands. According to Dr. Magdon Jayasuriya this species has only been recorded once from out side the wet lowlands from Doluwa Kanda in the intermediate zone from the Kurunegala district.

Thus this is the first record of this species from the dry zone of the country.

I have so far seen this species in bloom only at one location between Illanda Mottai and Mana Wila in April 2014.
