This is an indigenous species that is commonly found in the dry lowlands throughout the country. It is also native to tropical Africa, South Africa, India and Arabia.
The conservation status of the species under reference is regarded as Least Concerned (National Red List 2012)

This is a species that is common along road sides jungle edges, scrublands ect in the dry zone of the country. I have never come across this species at altitudes more than 250-300 meters. The roots of this speies are used in Ayurveda madicine to treat a number of ailments including snake bite.

In Wilpattu this is a very common species that is found along side the roads and open areas. These tiny flowers can be seen throughout the year.
