This is a common species, which is also found in India, Bangladesh and Nepal.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (National Red List 2012).

This is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.

These frogs can be found through out the lowlands up to an altitude of about 400 meters. Except in urban areas such as the city of Colombo they are common near human habitations. During the day they take shelter under logs, leaf litter or soft earth and emerge at night to hunt insects. When disturbed they can fill their lungs with air and appear larger than normal.

In Wilpattu I have seen this species at Hunuwilagama.
