This is an endemic species. As at 2012 Sri Lankan list of skinks consist of 32 species with 25 endemics. This Spotted Skink is an uncommon species found in both wet and dry zones of the country up to an altitude of about 800 meters.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as “Vulnerable” (National Red List 2012).

This is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.

I have seen this species in Kandy and at Minneriya.

In Wilpattu I photographed this species at the Mana Wila bungalow.
