This is an endemic species of small tree found in the dry zone forests of the country.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Near Threatened. (National List 2012).

This species is found in the low country dry zone and is common in most dry zone national parks.

I have observed large numbers of Fire Flies on the flowers of this species but was not able to figure out the reason for their attraction.

In Wilpattu these trees bloom after the first rains during October and November and the whole tree becomes virtually covered with clusters of beautiful white flowers.
