This species is found in most scrublands of the low country dry zone. It is found in tropical and subtropical Africa & Asia.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (IUCN Red List).

The Hoarypea is a very common species found in open scrublands throughout the dry zone. Females of a butterfly species named Forget-me-not lays its eggs on the tender stems and leaves of this plant. The seedpods are edible.

Juice from crushed leaves is used in Ayurveda and Siddha medicine to treat edema and diabetes.

This is a very common species that can be seen at most open locations throughout the park. I have observed flowers in November and December.
