This is an indigenous shrub found in dry lowland forests and in exposed rocky localities of the country. This is species is also native to India and is found in Andra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (National Red List 2012).

The plant produces its pretty flowers from January to September. I have seen this species in Yala National Park, Mannar, all over Jaffna peninsula, Dambulla and Polonnaruwa.

In Wilpattu I have seen this species at Galge Viharaya and Pomparippu.
