In Sri Lanka these primitive snakes belonging to the Typhlopidae family are represented by ten species belonging to two Genuses’s referred to as Ramphotyphlops and Typhlops.

They are small snakes, which look like worms and are usually found under flowerpots, decaying logs etc.

Determining the species of these tiny snakes is almost impossible in the filed unless you are an expert as it requires taking a scale count.

Eight species are endemic to the country and many others including this one is believed to be a species new to science and are yet to be described.

I have seen these snakes in the dry lowlands, wet zone as well as in the hills.
