This is an introduced species. It is native to tropical America but has been introduced to tropical Asia, Africa and Australia.
This is a common weed found throughout the low country dry zone in localities such as paddy fields, roadsides, grasslands etc. Grounded dried leaves are said to heal old ulcers rapidly.
In Wilpattu I have found this plant around Lunu Wewa bungalow.
