Common Name : Swamp Foxglove     -       Scientific Name : Centranthera indica (Scrophulariaceae)       -       Other Name : Dutu Sathutu (S)

This is a small plant that grows in open Patna areas of the low country dry zone. It is native to Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal and Sri Lanka.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned. (National List 2012).

The females of one of the most exquisitely coloured butterflies known as the Blue Pansy lays their eggs on the leaves of this species. I have observed this fast flying butterfly on a few occasions in the park.

During the month of June these flowers can be observed at Mahapatessa, Kudapatessa, Panikkar Villu and Aalam Villu.
