This is a species endemic to Sri Lanka.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Endangered (National Red List 2012).

The Sri Lankan pimpernel is known to occur in open grassy places in the Northern and Eastern dry zone. There is hardly any information available in the literature about this species.

I found this species flowering in a field of grass in May 2015 at Mana Wila in the Wilpattu National Park. Thus the species also occurs in the Northwestern part of the island.
