This is a small plant that is found in water-associated habitats. It is native to India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned. (National List 2012).

This is a common species that is found in the lowlands and lower hills.

In Wilpattu this species will also bloom along with the white Pipeworts Eriocaulon (Kok Mota) that appear around most villus after the rains where the ground becomes quite moist. However these flowers can be seen close to the water edge throughout the year.
