This is a very common species found throughout the country and can be found in all human dwellings except for the highest hills. This species was originally from Southeast Asia. But it has now been introduced to many other countries.  They now occur in Southeast Asia, Australia, Africa and even in the United States.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (National Red List 2012).

This is a species protected under the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance as amended by Act No. 22 of 2009.

The common House Gecko and its Chick Chick call is one of the most familiar animal calls hear in all the human dwellings.

It is common in Wilpattu and along with other species of gecko’s they are seen throughout the park.
