Other than in Sri Lanka this weed is found in South India and Nepal.

The conservation status of this species is regarded as Least Concerned (National Red List 2012).

This species is also referred to in India and the Deer’s ear due to the shape of its leaves being very similar to those of a Spotted Deer ears. The crushes leaves are used in native medicine to apply externally on pimples.

I have seen these flowers occasionally in the dry and arid zone jungles and scrub land areas including Arippu, Mannar, and Devil’s Point at Veruwil and Vidathalthivu areas.

This is not a commonly seen flower in Wilpattu. I photographed these flowers during the month of July at Kok Mottai.
