This is an indigenous species, which is considered endemic by some authors on wild flowers.

This species is a large bush and is found in the arid zone and the dry lowlands of the country. This may be confused with the common Ochan lanceolata, which produces flowers that looks similar at a distance. The papery leaves of this species have rounded tips with sharp denticulate edges.  These leaf characteristics differentiate this species from the commonly found O. lanceolata ofwhich the leaves are ovate with fine edges.

This species is common in the sandy areas of Wilpattu.
