First Sighting
9th March 2019 at 12.43pm
9th March 2019 at 12.43pm I observed fresh pugmarks on the road at the Mana Wila sand patch and followed them. After driving a short distance we spotted a female Leopard on the road walking towards Mana Wila. N 08.47749, E079.98798
I immediately stopped the vehicle but the shy animal darted in to the forest. After about 10 minutes we drove forward and spotted the leopard again seated behind a bush close to where it entered the forest and managed to get a few record images adequate enough to study the spot pattern on its forehead before she vanished in to the forest. She was an adult female and I estimated her age to be around 6 years. This is my first sighting of this female and I named it Mana Wila Sand Patch Female 1 (MWSPF 1) (with guide Tissa Ratnayake)
